Even though my hearing was fine, I did hum to cover Carol's screams, while Rose wandered around fidgeting and playing with her hair.
“Can u please shut it?” She snapped at me. She looked annoyed, I made a gesture with my hand across my lips like zipping my mouth, I didn’t blame her, she cared for Carol a lot, but we couldn’t get in the room, only Carlisle, Alice and Edward, the necessary ones, were allowed in the room. I was okay with that, the three of them were enough to protect Alice if Carol went wild when she woke up. After a while, I decided to look. I went downstairs and opened the door slightly; Carlisle had the remorse-sympathy look he had back during Bella's transformation. To my relief, Edward was comforting Alice. When I entered, she gave me a warm smile, but it was still forced. I went to her side and rubbed her shoulder, her smile was still playing at the corner of her lips. Carol would scream at times and Alice and Carlisle would lean to her side worried, but thankfully, Alice managed to remain calm. She trusted her visions of a pale-skinned beautiful version of Carol. I stayed with them for a day, I found myself understanding how Edward must have felt in Bella’s transformation. I did not want to sit back useless; I wanted to do something for my Alice. Therefore, I decided to do something I have never done before. Rose was going to help me, while Emmett and Esme arranged to go to hunt. I knew it was something Alice used to do, but I thought it would be a nice surprise for her if Rosalie and I had done it for her this year. So I went to the storeroom and got all the Christmas decorations I found, which were practically half our storeroom and we got to work. I placed the huge Christmas tree in the middle of our living room and Rose decorated it with gold and red balls, Bella wanted to check on Nessie and Jacob so she headed to La Push. Rose joked about Bella’s lack of enthusiasm, I could not help but agree, and Alice wasted a lot of time trying to make Bella enthuse about all kinds of celebrations, with no effect of course. So I let Rose move on with the inside of the house and I decided to cover the outside with colourful lights, festoons and all that stuff Alice had bought for graduation, so the humans would “find their way here“, we all looked grumpy when we saw that she had covered the whole street with flickering lights, they were kind of useful today though. On the third day, I went and decorated the basement door and waited for Alice to come out. She came after a few minutes, probably seeing I waited for her. “Merry Christmas” I wished her standing under the mistletoe. “Merry Christmas Jazzy” She wished back and kissed me.

Dear Diary,
Apparently morphine did not work on Bella either. I was surprised she could bear it, I kept an eye on her, and back then, she seemed fine, maybe a little tensed, but fine. After Alice had seen that, she looked even more worried. I wish Bella had kept this to herself, not that I didn’t mind if Carol suffered, I just didn’t prefer Alice worrying about it. To me after all I've seen the transformation, it is a big part and unexceptionally unforgettable of an immortals life. Something you cannot escape. Everyone was waiting for Carlisle’s response. After a long moment, he finally spoke “We'll inject the morphine with the venom to her system so they'll counteract each other. I believe she won’t feel anything." Alice pursed her lips, she was not going to be convinced with what Carlisle believed, but she wasn’t going to contradict them either, still she felt unsure about them. Either way we had no choice. Emmet took the morphine after he was bitten ,what they hadn't see is that the venom would spread faster sealing ,burning his veins so then the morphine was useless. Bella took it before she was bitten, but there was so much damage in her body that the morphine couldn’t be spread to her body so when the venom was injected, the morphine acted wrongly, she made her body heavy, unmovable, painful. "It’s our best chance." I said trying to smile and squeezed her hand. She gave me the faintness hint of a smile in return and glanced at Carol worriedly. Carol on the other hand was completely unreadable. She had her back a against the wall, a pillow underneath her knees. And the blankest expression on her face. I didn’t understand it; didn’t she care at all about the pain? Was this some kind of a gift? Blocking overwhelming emotions and being careless about experiences that were about to cause her more pain than all the pain she has probably ever experienced in her whole life? I heard Edward pull to the garage, Bella had sent him to take Renesmee to Jacob's so she could tell Carlisle about the morphine without Edward knowing, and the engine stopped. Bella threw us a pleading glance and Rose nodded. I tried to leave aside all about morphine and started thinking about the newborns and their transformation. "Okay, let’s get this party started!” Emmet said excitedly. I rolled my eyes. Emmet. Esme looked at him sourly, it wasn't much of a scowl but it was the best Esme could pull. Edward entered, and Alice nodded to Carlisle and took Carol softly by the hand to get her to the basement. A not-exactly-a-party was about to start. -Jasper Decisions, Decisions.
I caught her hand, she was going up to Carol, her niece. But I wasn’t going to just sit back. She turned with a questioned look in her face, her delicate features were full of worry. I forced a smile: "thought you’re gonna need me up there". Her smile came instantly, matching with mine. We went up the stairs, holding hands. I tried to lower the tense and she slowly loosened her grip. She knocked the door heavily enough for Carol to hear. “Alice?” her voice came unsure from behind the door. Alice took a deep unneeded breath, and we got in the room. Carol smiled shyly eyeing me with curiosity but made no question, I was going to like that girl. Alice introduced me and I avoided tactfully to not shake her hand. She didn't look surprised, Alice had probably avoided contacting that way with he too. They talked for a while, surprisingly she wasn’t scared. Then she told us her side of the story and it didn’t differ a lot from Alice’s. Apparently she was kicked out of her house once her relatives discovered her "curse".She told us a bunch of other stuff Alice probably already knew from reading her past, but she kept nodding politely while Carol talked. Then Alice explained her that she was her niece and that she also has premonitions. She threw me a quick warning look when Carol was to lost in her thoughts to see it. I felt the atmosphere of our talk turn into a casual chat. Then they talked about turning her into one of us. We received no reaction, she stood there, frozen. Then like we have asked her to go out for a pizza, instead of offering her immortality, she just nodded and smiled faintly. Alice smiled broadly, approvingly. I didn't loose my power, I wondered if her choice was so easy for her as it seemed or if it was a product of my gift. Then our whole clan was inside the room-except Rose, she was downstairs combing Renesmee’s hair as far as I knew. I wondered if she just wanted to give Alice some time, for her to make sure if Carol really wanted this, I had a feeling that Rose was going to like this girl. I didn’t mention that Carol had no choice from this point, she knew-it was death or immortality now, no going back. Bella flashed a warm smile at Carol and moved next to Edward, she spoke low enough for Carol not to hear but we could hear her. She wanted to stay here to support Alice and told Edward to take Nessie to Jacob because it wasn’t really safe here. I didn’t get it, Edward would be more useful here, why sending him to wolf land? Edward took off immediately and after we couldn’t here the Volvo’s engine anymore Bella was at Carlisle side suddenly. He leaned to his ear and told him something in a really low voice. Even we couldn’t catch it, all I heard was something about “protecting thoughts” and “morphine“. I glanced over at Alice, I guessed she would see what Bella just told my “father“. Her face was blank and then she made a face but nodded to Bella, carefully avoiding my gaze, I rolled my eyes. Then Rose was in the room too. I guessed she couldn’t hold it any longer. Carlisle threw a quick approving glance at Bella and stepped forward, Alice smiled weakly, uneasily. “It’s time.” When I drove in, I saw Jacob and Nessie on the porch, Jacob was hugging her and she had her eyes closed, half asleep I guessed, she looked tired. Me and Carol got out of the car and from all the noise in the house I understood that everybody was home, good!
“Hey, dog!” I called out to him and gave him a warning look, moving my eyes from him to Renesmee. “Hey, shorty!” He smiled happily with a hint of worry in his eyes, he clenched his hands a little around her. I got in and changed my train of thoughts so that they were full of Carol, I didn’t want a grouchy Edward, I had important things to say. Everyone greeted us, we found Edward playing piano, another lullaby, wondered who it was for this time, I gave him all the information quickly and I went straight up the stairs leading Carol to my and Jasper’s bedroom. I whispered that we all need to talk low enough so Carol wouldn’t hear it, I showed her the closet, twice the size of the room and I told her to have a look and if she wanted to put our clothes in, and I will be back soon, good thing with vampire talks, we say much but it doesn't take long. We all sat at the kitchen table that was rarely used now that Bella was one of us, she was smiling warmly at me probably seeing herself at my place too, years ago, the only difference is that I wasn’t going to vote for my humanity, but for Carol’s, my ship has sailed a long time ago, I hope Carol wouldn’t hate me after this. “I know you can hear her heartbeat, so I’m getting straight to the point.”I told them she is my niece, she has the same ability and by bringing her here I was trying to protect her from Aro. I caught Rose’s face twitching in pain, was she thirsty? I doubted that. I turned first to Bella, I needed support that I wasn’t sure Jasper was ready to give me right now. “Yes.”She spoke her voice steady. Then to Edward. “Yes.”His voice wasn’t as sure as Bella’s but I bet he didn’t want Aro to have Carol. “Esme?” “Of course.” She smiled warmly at me, I smiled back. Before I had time to ask Rose she spoke. “Yes”She told me.”But make sure you talk to her first, make sure she wants this life”she continued her face now quite peaceful. I nodded. “Emmet?” He turned slightly to Bella with a grin on his face while replying to me. “Hell yeah!”My smile was instant but faded quickly as I turned to meet Jasper’s gaze. “Yes” he told me with certainty. I kissed him lightly, thanked everyone and headed upstairs to fullfil Rosalie’s request I picked up the papers, while looking at her. I could see my expression reflected on her worried face. This wasn’t my niece, I knew Cynthia, my sister had a daughter but she couldn’t be here, 10 inches away from me, what kind of Hollywood freaky soap opera was this? And I wasn’t a part of it, I couldn’t be. But something at the back of my head, obvious like a neon sign, protested. Telling me that I should protect her, take her away before Aro finds her.
I assured Carlisle she was just fine and she could leave. He looked confused but I whispered I would explain to him once he got home. Carol didn’t say much about her abrupt hospital exit. I guess she was glad she was out of it. I was too, I was done with this hospital. I took her to the shops, normally I would take her for a coffee but I bet she wouldn't be too be thrilled if I ordered blood, so shopping was the next option for doing things on the “human stuff list". Plus it was easy to get chatting and if she was my niece she would probably like shopping. I told her she could choose anything she wanted and I smiled warmly at her. She smiled back shyly but I was surprised, she took it so well, going shopping with a stranger you just met after confessing you just had visions, weird girl, I liked her. We chatted a bit about her likes in clothes, some were similar to mine and she chose a black satin dress with fire-shaped panels down to her knees. I chose a nightgown, white, with pretty flowers. Once we paid, we left and we headed towards her new home, our home. I’ll post the new entry next week and let you know how our family talk was! -Alice I tried to consider the possibility that the girl could have had a vision, she might be lying but I didn't think that a humans could lie so believably. She might be hallucinating. I decided to try and find an easier way.
“What vision, dear?” I ask, in a sweet voice, buttering her up. She sat up, and pulled her hair behind her ear trying to concentrate. “We were chatting-outside of the hospital-you were laughing, I looked happy so I supposed I should tell you this.” She looked ashamed; she lowered her gaze and starred at the white floor. After a few seconds she threw a quick glance at me and I smiled her warmly. “I’m glad to hear that, we’ll be great friends.” I flashed another warm smile and left the room. I was grateful that as an immortal I had a chance to improve my acting skills, so the humans don’t suspect anything, I was satisfied with myself that Carol didn’t see how upset I was. It was a miracle that Aro hadn’t found the girl by now. I walked down the corridor till I found Carlisle's office; I knocked lightly and went in. I asked him for Carol’s charts. He nodded and left the room and after a few minutes he was back, he handed me the charts. I thanked him, assuring him that everything was fine and went to sit in one of the uncomfortable hospital chairs, near Carol’s room. Then I quickly scanned the papers in front of me. Carol Anderson Biloxi, Mississippi That’s when the papers fell of my hands, and hit the floor. I looked up to meet the troubled gaze of my still living, NIECE! Today I finish a week at Forks Hospital. I haven’t been doing much, because I was supposed to know a lot less than I really do, so I was in charge of small things. I knew Carlisle could trust me with more important stuff though. I believe today they’ll put me in charge of more difficult things. I’ve learned a lot of stuff, what pills to give, how to treat certain patients. Some of them just need a pill or two, once a day and I also learned how to treat light illnesses. Carlisle said that I’m sort of home-studying with him, in addition to “promoting” me, I didn’t but because of our heightened senses as immortals I’ve been kind of eave’s dropping on most hospital patients.
I was giving pills to Mr. Roth, a sweet old man who doesn’t complain about anything, when Carlisle called me in his office. I didn’t like all this formality but I didn’t bother to complain as that’s how things work. “Hello, Alice.” he said. ”I have good news; you’ll be in charge of a few patients. Heidi Keller, Carol Anderson, Frank Miller and Karen Hinds. ” He gave me the list, I was a little confused by his anxious tone when he said Carol’s name but I didn’t take much notice. I was pleased, I knew three of my patients, Karen, was a polite little girl with blond hair and Heidi, was a plump middle-aged woman. I knew Frank because I was eave’s dropping on him, he was a spoiled 15 year old boy. I didn’t know Carol and I didn’t remember hearing about her either but I was sure I was going to meet her soon. “I’ll get to the point, Carol is a newcomer. She can’t remember anything, she is really upset, she was exhausted, and she fainted, somebody found her and brought her to the hospital, she woke up a few hours ago. She doesn’t want to do any test and I can’t figure out if she has something serious. I was kind of hoping that you could see her past, and tell me if she has experienced anything relevant with her case, then I’ll know what to do.” He told me where she was; I nodded and went out of his office. I spotted her room and paused for a second, she reminded me of myself, a little. She was small, her hair went down to her shoulders, touching them slightly, it was dark brown just like mine. She was a bit nervous, moving all the time, scratching herself or brushing her hair with her fingers. I walked into her room and felt my throat go a bit dry, she smelled really sweet. I shove that thought out of my head and concentrated. I smiled at her, she smiled back shyly. “Hello dear, how are you feeling, a little nervous?” She shook her head back and forth quickly, her eyes blank. “Is everything okay dear?”I asked her, a bit worried. She looked at me and I felt like she could see through me. “I just had a vision.” she blurted out. -Alice Honestly, I didn’t like Carlisle's idea, of joining him in the hospital, helping the sick. I couldn’t explain why, maybe because of a buried childhood memory? No, not buried, this memory was always fresh to me, alive, more than any memory. I didn’t like being in a hospital, so the idea of working in one gave me the chills. The moment I stepped into the white boring reception of the hospital it brought the memory I was trying to shove out of my head, to life, the white rooms, the quick questions, the weird glances, the white dressed nurses and my Mom:
“It’s okay dear, everything is okay, these good people will help you and hopefully cure your...'illness'. “But, you’re going to come back, right, Mom?” “Yes, honey, of course.” This is how I said “goodbye” to my Mom. I was left there for years till Ethan found me, and well you know the rest of the story. Anyway, I didn’t like the nurse uniform either, but I tried to remember to myself every so often that I was doing this for Jasper. He was so unnecessarily worried, I tried to explain to him, he seemed comforted but not really calm. That’s the reason I’m here, he’s better this week, but I kind of feel he is hiding something. But nothing serious Edward would have told me that if it was something important. I know I can trust my brother for such things. He did warn me when Jasper was planning on joining the Voltouri, well, not on purpose, but I saw it. So I don’t go through Jasper’s plans. I believe he has a surprise for me, or something like that, whatever it is, it brought his energy back so I’m not going to ruin it for him. I loved everyone occupying me; they had excellent ideas, especially Bella. She claimed she wanted to shop more now that she is an immortal, so we travel everyday to L.A. and empty a few shops well at least I do. Bella took just a few night gowns. I smiled to myself, having flashbacks of me packing for Bella’s honeymoon, I was glad I reminisced this memory with joy. I think Edward was pleased too, a short break from teaching Jasper, with Bella will be good for him. A week passed and tomorrow I’ll go to Carlisle’s office, he wants to settle me down, I hope there are not many injured humans there. -Alice Our week was busy; if I was human my hands were going to be dead swollen. Since my talk with Alice I’ve been taught how to play piano from Edward. I think he feels bad that Alice knows and now he wants to sort of pay me back, and since I was thinking that I want to write a lullaby for Alice when he was around he suggested that I learned how to play piano, in case I wanted to write my Alice a song, I know how to play, we all know the basics but Edward and Rosalie are much better that the rest of us.
The whole family was involved, I appreciate it much; I think they try to cheer me up, since my latest shock from Tanya's visit. It's working, Edward is busy teaching me but all the others try their best not to let Alice know. Nessie moved all her hairstyle stuff to Bella and Edward's little cottage and ask her to show her new types of hairstyle, so I can practice, I tried not to think this around Edward but I don't believe Renesmee asked this from Alice just for my sake, I believe that she wants to impress Jacob, soon she'll be fully matured, she doesn't know that Jacob was waiting six years for her and that he must wait one more. Emmet offered her to fight and race with him sometimes, I don't blame him, how could he get Alice out of the house without saying the word "shopping", so fighting was good for a few more lessons. Rosalie and Esme brought the weirdest piece of clothing and asked her to show them how to mix and match them, to keep her busy. Even Bella asked her help, she told her she wanted to be more involved with clothes since she was an immortal now and she had plenty of time. But she claimed she didn't want to get fed up with shopping so they visit a few shops at a time in a Los Angeles, it's Alice's favorite shopping area. Alice was amused, and I think Bella doesn’t hate shopping that much now. And Carlisle offered her to work at hospital with him; he thought that the fact that Alice made her gift more powerful has something to do with her having more of self control now. So he suggested that she learns how to help the sick people like he did with Edward a few years ago. But he claimed that she thinks about it first, and they’ll start in a week because Carlisle believes that she must prepare herself, she’ll be very close to injured humans, they shouldn’t rush, but also because if we keep her very busy now she’ll suspect things so they take turns occupying her . I think that’s great, not only because it’ll keep Alice away so I can have my lessons but because if Alice learns how to treat sick people she’ll save a lot of lives that Carlisle couldn’t. Because Carlisle was a bit limited, he had no gift, but what if Alice can see their past, she’ll be able to see what meds they took, things they’ve done that won’t admit them or forgot them but their important to identify their illness.I know Alice will be a major help for Carlisle, and he sees it too. I’ll update on my next entry how my lessons were. I hope Alice enjoys her lullaby, wish me luck! -Jasper Hale After my "little talk" with Edward, Alice was giving me this look, like she was waiting for me to explode. Every few minutes she threw quick glares at me, I pretended to be interested by a baseball game. I wasn't much of a match and Emmet had already seen it so I kept the volume really low-I didn't want to disturb Edward, who I think was composing a lullaby for Nessie. Sometimes I envy Edward a bit, I mean we all know how to play piano, I want to compose a song, for my Alice. But then I lost my train of thoughts because of Alice's movement, she eventually got bored of eyeing me, and went to our bedroom. I wasn't a coward-I did want to face her-it's just that I wanted us to be alone when I did. So I went for a walk, hoping that she would follow me.
When she catch up to me, she kissed me lightly and then she began to speak. She spoke with a smile playing in the corners of her lips; it made me want to kiss her again. "Jasper Whitlock, what do you think you're doing?"I opened my mouth to speak but no sound came out, so she continued: "Planning to go to Italy without me?"I froze, Edward didn't tell her, she must have seen him planning to talk to me about warning her. You can't hide anything from Alice, no one really knows how it works, it’s not like science, you can't make her see something or plan what she'll see, unless you decide things and then change your mind quickly, like Victoria did a few years ago when she was trying to distract her to get to Bella, it worked. "I saw it" she said confirming my claims. She continued:"Jasper, I have no intention on joining Aro's coven-ever”. I remembered how I was seeing the Voltouri when I was in Maria's Army, like they were the good guys, the ones who made sure that everyone was following the laws, like saviors, if they didn't take care of some certain clan’s, Maria’s army, myself included might have turned into ash. I didn't trust them as much when they made us ran away from our family to find Nahouel, the other half-immortal, half-human child, but now this feeling of trust was lost as I feared that I would lose my Alice, that they would take her away from me. "I will never ever leave you Jasper" I leaned over to kiss her passionately, this time it last longer, if I was a human I would have fainted. "Plus, have you seen those cloaks they wear? Yuck!" |
InfoAfter becoming a major in the Confederate Army, Jasper Whitlock was bested upon by the vampire Maria, who proceeded to turn him. After the transformation, Jasper aided Maria in her creation of a newborn vampire army which successfully conquered the feeding grounds of Texas. However, Jasper became tired of this violent and bloodlust life and eventually became a nomad. Fortunately, he was eventually found by Alice, the love of his life and with her began a life with the peaceful coven of the Cullen family. Jasper's Journal was previously written by Aggeliki.
